How to Immigrate to Canada As a Nurse
Canada's shortage
of nurses has been worsened by Covid-19. Only through granting permanent residency to nurses
from abroad can Canada meet its nursing needs.
Canada's problem of a chronic
shortage in nurses before the pandemic only got worse. The pandemic caused more damage to a country already
in short of nurses.
In order to
increase the number of nurses in the workforce, governments have had to create
initiatives. Ontario is planning
to invest $342 million in the next five years. The budget indicates that approximately 13000 nurses
will be available for hire in the region.
British Columbia
has also pledged $16,000 to support more nurses entering the provinces. The funds will be used by 1500 nurses from overseas
colleges to submit their applications and take English language tests. Quebec spent $65 million on the recruitment and
education of around 1,000 nurses in French-speaking countries.
This list contains
information on how nurses can enter Canada from outside or within Canada. It is good to know that Canada has many immigration
programs. This list is not complete.
On the other hand,
nurses have an advantage as nursing is often considered "skilled
labor" and they are eligible for virtually all programs that need people
with "skilled jobs."
Two important aspects of eligibility are the NOC Code, and Skill Level.
According to
Canada's National Occupation Classification (NOC), nursing can be classified as
skill level A or B. In skill level A,
registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurse are included. licensed practical nurses are included at NOC skill
level A.
Because they have
an impact on which immigration programs they can apply for, it is important
that nurses have the right skills. This information also provides details about any
additional requirements a nursing professional may need to apply to a
particular program.
Express Entry Programmes for Nurses
Express Entry
System is an online application management software that integrates with the
CEC and FSWP programs. This allows nurses to quickly apply for entry to Canada.
Canadian
immigration professionals can use the site for their profiles and to assess
their Comprehensive Ranking System scores (CRS). Express Entry candidate ratings are determined by their
education, age, and language proficiency. Candidates who have received high marks can apply
twice a weeks for permanent residence.
